Many of the state parks offer hiking trails marked specifically for self-guided interpretive hikes. These day hikes are great for individuals, families, or large groups, learning what the great outdoors has to offer.
Horseback riding is another way to get out and explore what is being offered in the great outdoors of North Dakota. Corrals are available for bringing your own horse, or private concessionaires have horse rentals and guided services.
While visiting North Dakota State Parks take advantage of all the wildlife viewing available.
In Western North Dakota mule deer, whitetail deer, antelope run wild throughout the Badlands. An occasional moose or elk might also be seen. Whitetail deer can be observed state wide where ever you look.
Once in a blue moon a mountain lion can be observed while out in the great outdoors, they for the most part stay out of sight. Over the last several years more and more mountain lions are setting up their territories, mostly in the western part of the state.
