There are so many different cars. There are so many different models. Each attracts a different measure of prestige from the society. But does this affect your premium? Have you bothered to ask how much less premium you would have been paying if you used a similar car by a different manufacturer?
Insurance companies have separated various cars into groups. There are around 20 different groupings (This could be different in your own country). Each group has a rating which is used to determine the premium you have to pay. You get to pay high premiums if your car is in a group that is rated for high premiums. Here's a list of the least expensive cars to insurer. This is from Reuters and is based on the top 20 best-sellers in the US...
1. Chrysler Town & Country
2. Chevrolet Cobalt
3. Dodge Caravan
4. Chevrolet Impala
5. Ford Taurus
6. Ford Econoline
7. Jeep Grand Cherokee
8. Chevrolet Malibu
9. GMC Sierra Pickup
10. Toyota Corolla
On the other hand, the following are the most expensive to insure (No 1 being the most expensive)...
1. Ford F-Series
2. Dodge Ram Pickup
3. Ford Explorer
4. Honda Civic
5. Chevrolet Silverado-C/K Pickup
6. Toyota Camry
7. Honda Accord
8. Chevrolet Trailblazer
9. Nissan Altima
10. Ford Focus
You can certainly choose which if you have been trying to settle for one of two cars that incidentally have fallen into the different lists.
The cars you are considering may not be among the 20 best-sellers in the US and so do not appear in the list. That's not the focus here really. The point is really to make you see the need to find out what you may be losing on auto insurance premiums before paying for a particular car. If you look at it from a long term view, it could amount to several thousands of dollars.
Do you already have a car? Do you know that you could save several hundred dollars by simply getting and comparing auto insurance quotes from at least three quotes sites?
